Our Specialties

Liver is one of the most vital organ performing more that 400 different and crucial functions, the most for any organ in particular in the human body. It is the largest among the solid organs (or viscera, plural for ‘viscus’; medical term for internal organ). The other solid organs (or viscera) being kidneys, adrenals, spleen and pancreas. Heart, lungs, stomach and intestines forms the hollow visceras. It is located in the right upper part of abdomen, medically described as to ‘occupy the right upper quadrant of abdomen’ (medically human abdomen is divided into 9 different quadrants for the purpose of study and descriptions). Liver, although is situated in the abdominal cavity but is very well covered and sits well protected in the rib cage of the right side, being separated from the chest cavity and right lung by a muscular sheath called ‘diaphragm. Hence, unless pathologically enlarged it is generally not felt (or palpable) during a clinical per abdominal exam. An enlarged or palpable liver is a clinical sign that might be an indication for further evaluating of ones’ liver condition and might be called for by your examining physician.

Frequently Asked Questions

Ask Us Anything!

Q: What is the success rate of Liver Transplant ?

A: The immediate success rate for the liver transplant procedure is 95-98%. The actuarial success depends on the patient's sickness level and his condition before the transplant.

Q: Who can be a liver donor?

A: A liver donor has to be a healthy adult family member

Q: What Are the Types of Liver Transplants?

A: Orthotopic Liver Transplantation is when the diseased liver is replaced by a healthy liver from a donor who has recently died. This is the most common procedure for liver transplants.

Living Donor Transplantation is when a living person donates a part of his or her liver to someone who needs a new liver. This procedure has been increasingly successful, but it carries risks for the donor, and only a small number of living donor transplants are available for patients with liver cancer.

Q: What Happens when I Am on a Transplant Waiting List?

A: Currently there are more people who need a new liver than there are donors. Therefore, most people will be placed on a transplant waiting list. While you are on the waiting list, the transplant team will regularly monitor your liver’s health and provide other treatments if needed, such as surgery, embolization, or ablation.

Q: What Happens During Liver Transplant Surgery?

A: During transplant surgery, the transplant team replaces the diseased liver with a donated, healthy liver. The blood type and body size of the donor have to match the person receiving the transplant. Liver transplant surgery usually takes between 4 and 12 hours. Most patients stay in the hospital for up to 3 weeks after surgery.

Q: How does dedicated OT & ICU infrastructure help in liver transplant outcomes?

A: A dedicated OT and ICU for liver transplant ensures a sterile, specialized environment with advanced equipment and trained staff, reducing infection risk and improving post-operative monitoring. This setup enables quicker response to complications, better recovery, and higher success rates for transplant patients.

Q: What is the cost of liver transplant in India?

A: The cost of liver transplant in India varies depending on the hospital, city, and complexity of the case. On average, it ranges from ₹15 lakh to ₹35 lakh (approximately $18,000 to $42,000 USD), making it significantly more affordable compared to Western countries while maintaining world-class standards of care.

Q: What support is available for international patients seeking treatment in India?

A: International patients receive comprehensive support including visa assistance, airport pickup, accommodation arrangements, language interpretation, treatment coordination, and post-treatment follow-up. Our team ensures a seamless medical tourism experience from arrival to departure.
